Youth Voices: Teen Blog Therapy Sessions

Link to Student blog.

This student shares a deeply personal story. Her writing is extremely raw and honest. It seems like heavy and dark; confusion and hopelessness are laced throughout the post. On a refreshing note, other students come to her rescue by responding to her compelling plight of despair. It is clear that motivation to practice writing is not a problem for these teens. They write to express their sentiments, while at the same time honing their skills and developing their author’s voice.

I can see that the students are truly engaged with writing to express important ideas. Some are obviously more skilled than others in the use of academic discourse; others convey a more crude ability to express themselves, yet I am convinced the continual reading and posting will support improved skill in written communication as well as critical reading and thinking.

I like the idea of using blogs within the classroom setting. We’ll see if access to technology will allow. I would love to be able to have my kids blog and use my class bog to find information and assignments.

Welcome 4th Grade

Welcome to the Our Lady of Lourdes 4th grade web blog. Educational blogging is a useful tool for communicating class news and information. The blog can be updated on a regular basis to keep parents and students informed about class news, assignments, suggested readings and notifications.

Web blogs also may contain links to websites that are related to classroom curriculum. This is a great way for students to learn more about subjects that they are covering during class. Students may be able to access educational supports, such as games and puzzles to reinforce learning.

Students can use blogging to post entries to online journals. Similar to traditional journals, blogs allow for a place for students to record thoughts and generate ideas for writing. Additionally, students’ blog entries can be commented on by the teacher and students to provide feedback on the content of the entry.

Student entries can include more than just text. Students can create and post projects to the blog. They may add graphics, photos, video, and audio recordings to enhance their project and showcase it to their classmates and parents. We will be using blogs in many exciting ways throughout the school year.
